Kate went on a field trip to the Center for Wooden Boats with her school. They had a smashing good time–emphasis on the smashing. She ran into a hammer and needed three stitches in her upper lip. Luckily Eddy was on the trip, as was an ER doctor and a licensed registered nurse. This ER visit had nothing on Jonah’s– such a different experience between France and the US!

Graduation Day
As strange as it seems for the French, American schools are now celebrating graduation from kindergarten. Kate’s teacher actually had a very low key ceremony in the school’s Butterfly Garden (i.e. a patch of grass on the side of the school yard), followed by a celebratory tea in the classroom. All the parents hummed Pomp and Circumstance after the kids walked in, and even that decidedly non ceremonial rendition of it had me sniffling! Each child then stood in front of the class and told us how they felt on the first day of kindergarten compared to the last day; Kate said that she felt nervous at first, but quickly made friends afterwards. That sentiment was quite the trope; all the kids said basically the same thing.
