Road Trip Day Twelve

After a restful night in cool and air conditioned Flagstaff (I actually had to turn the heat up during the night), we packed up the car and headed to the Grand Canyon.

When we got there and started walking to the South Rim, Owen actually wanted to keep his eyes closed until we got until where we could see it. So I held his hand as we walked closer. Then we saw this:

Grand Canyon

Yeah, impressive. Even Penelope enjoyed it.

Penelope visits the Grand Canyon.

After about an hour walking around oohing and aahing (again) we started off on our way home…well the first day of the three day journey home.

Road Trip Day Twelve

We drove through some amazing country. I feel really privileged to be able to live in and visit this amazing country, and share that experience with (most of) my family. We’ll definitely be back.

Road Trip Day Eleven

After a disastrous night in the sauna hotel room, we drove to Grandpa’s for breakfast.

After some scrambled eggs and bacon, I looked through the photo albums with Grandpa and picked out a few to bring home. Here are two of my favorites.

We climbed back into the (air conditioned) car and headed off to Flagstaff.

Road Trip Day Nine

Some of the areas that we drove through were empty!

Once we got to Flagstaff and unloaded the car, we headed off to dinner. Uncle Paul lived here and gave us some recommendations:

  • beer
  • tattoos
  • breakfast place

I felt pretty comfortable checking one of those items off the list, and of course we hadn’t gotten to breakfast yet. So instead we went to Diabalo Burgers, which Paul and a dog friendly website both recommended.

My boys are drinking (root) beer.

There was a cool cat statue outside, and Jonah and Owen got to try one of Uncle Paul’s recommendations. Cheers!
