One of the most surprising things for me in 2013 was my new gym habit. Since joining near the beginning of the year- albeit late enough that I missed qualifying for the New Years Resolution crowd discount of no initiation fee- I have been more than 100 times. I’ve been so frequently that I’ve been mayor on Foursquare, twice. I so enjoy working out (who would have thunk it?) that I’ve taken workout gear with me when I traveled, and used it.
I think part of my success is due to my competitive nature. I’m using two tools that score my progress against myself and others. There have been times that what motivated me to go was reclaiming my mayorship or getting points on Foursquare, or earning extra activity points in my Active Link. I’m also able to keep track of workouts on the cardio machines and challenging myself to match or better them. I like keeping track of things and clearly it helps.
I considered setting an activity resolution for 2014, but I don’t think I need to. I like going to the gym and I don’t like the person I am when it’s not something I do on a regular basis. I’m a gym rat now.
