Owen’s Graduation

2015-06-15 09.00.26-2

Owen graduated from View Ridge this year, and was as cool as a cucumber. He had been increasingly pushing his “big kid” status for a while– doing patrol last year, walking to school with Odin, and this year he wanted to ride his bike to school to. By the end of the year we started letting him do that (although Eddy almost followed him in the car a couple of times!), and we were very impressed with his conscientiousness and safety skills.

For his graduation day, we went back and forth a few times on what, exactly, constituted appropriate clothing. As gaudy as he can be in his wardrobe choices, he wanted to choose the most basic items possible. Finally we settled on plain black. Unlike Jonah’s graduation last year, both siblings wanted to come along. I think they got bored though, as Kate was quite wiggly.

As with Jonah’s ceremony the year before, it was very moving (and I only cried a little!). His wish for his future, published in the ceremony booklet, is to be a video game designer. I’m not sure how set he is on doing that (I keep talking to him about doing something where he helps people, like teaching, or working with kids, or being a cop or firefighter), but he very much enjoys coding, working with computers and playing video games. We shall see.

After graduation we went to Blue Fin for all you can eat dinner, and Carolyn came along. We wanted to thank her for all her help these past few years, as without her the journey would have been (would be) a lot more painful!
